Journey to the Emerald City: District Governor Cynthia Edwards Visits Rotary Club Atlanta Brasil

An evening of fellowship, recognition and international service on September 26, 2026

Journey to the Emerald City

On September 26, 2026, the Rotary Club Atlanta Brasil welcomed District Governor Cynthia Edwards for an evening of fellowship, inspiration, recognition and celebration. The club adopted the theme “Journey to the Emerald City” to symbolize growth, courage, friendship, hope and purpose as it reflected on past challenges and looked ahead to future service.

In the weeks before the visit, the club planned an experience to reflect Atlanta Brasil’s warm, multicultural and service-focused character. From Emerald City–inspired green and gold touches to the program, recognitions, fellowship and new member induction, every part of the evening highlighted the club’s ongoing journey: overcoming challenges, strengthening membership, building partnerships and finding new ways to serve.

A powerful story of service in Niger

One of the evening’s most moving moments came from special guests Alexandre and Giovana Canhoni, Brazilian speakers and missionaries who shared their work in Niger, Africa. Through ADG Niger, their work focuses on restoring dignity and creating opportunities for children and families through education, food security, care and long-term community support.

Alexandre and Giovana described opening their lives and family to children from Niger; over the years they have adopted and cared for 19 children. For more than 24 years, ADG Niger has worked to create lasting impact in the lives of children and communities. Their testimony reminded everyone that service is about changing lives. Rotary fellowship beyond club borders

The evening also welcomed fellow Rotarians, including Mary Medina, President of the Rotary E-Club Caribe 360, and Rotarian Doraine Barr. Their presence underscored Atlanta Brasil’s conviction that Rotary has no borders and that connections across regions strengthen our shared commitment to serve humanity.

Welcoming a new Rotarian

During the visit the club inducted its newest member, Mariane Domingues. Welcoming Mariane celebrated a milestone for the club and reinforced the idea that every new Rotarian brings ideas, talents and renewed possibilities for service.

Celebrating community impact

The club presented a Community Impact recognition to a non‑Rotarian, Johnny Williams, whose support and involvement demonstrated that making a difference extends beyond Rotary membership. The recognition honored the spirit of collaboration with community members, families and organizations who work alongside Rotary to create change.

Rotarians of the Year

The evening recognized Polivania Ramos and Cristiane Pope as Rotarians of the Year. Their leadership and steadfast support during a difficult period helped the club move forward. When challenges arose, they stepped forward with ideas, energy and action, helping to strengthen membership and encourage the club to persevere. Recognizing Polivania and Cristiane was the club’s way of saying thank you for believing in Rotary Club Atlanta Brasil and for standing with the club during challenging times.

The visit with District Governor Cynthia Edwards celebrated Rotary fellowship, shared stories of international service, honored contributors and welcomed new members — all reminders of the club’s ongoing journey and commitment to serving communities at home and abroad.
